My Dads WWII tour through the USSR, IRAN, IRAQ, Palestine, Egypt and Italy, where he survived the bloody Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy. He was an MP Sergeant in the Polish Army Operating under British Command. His brother was a Lieutenant who was executed in the Katyn Forrest Massacre in Russia along with 200,000 other officers. You may remember when the Polish President was flying to Russia for a Memorial Service for this massacre a few years ago when the President, his wife and his entire contingent all died in a plane crash in Russia.
